Offa Festival

What a buy week and what a busy weekend! Yesterday for the 3rd time this summer I had taken part in a summer fair. This time it took place in Wrexham under the name: Offa Festival. A few crafty stalls were gathered there - there were quilts, sewn items, jewellery, a cake stall and a bric-a-brac and of course mine with the painted glass. My place looked like this:

and here's a view from a seller's perspective, through the sweet pink glass ;)

This fair was special in a way as for the first time I'd been accompanied by my friend, Sue :) who had a lovely stall with sewn items.

Other stalls:

I won't make comments on the sale profits as we were short of customers, BIG TIME!  Very few who entered the building where we were selling in showed any interest in crafts. Dunno why, all the 3 fairs (must admit: not typical craft fairs but rather summer fun days) I've done so far have one thing in common - poor interest in buying hand-made items. Is it the case with all fairs these days or is it just me being unlucky with the spot and customers? Single sold items can hardly be called a good sale, can they? Let's hope my 4th one will be more successful.

time for Hand-made Monday at Homemade Harbour. Heading over there to see what others have been up to this week! Get clicking!

  1. Your work is very pretty and your stall looks great - lots of gorgeous colours. No, it isn't you being unlucky, fairs/events are hard going at the moment for handmade. I think The economic climate means people are looking for bargains (ie pennies rather than pounds) and this makes things very hard for us. In recent years I have done quite a few fairs towards the end of the year, but decided this year to reduce the number I do and go for more high-profile ones in the hope that visitor numbers wil be better, leading to better sales. Good luck with your next event, let's hope it is 4th time lucky. Hope you have a good week.

  2. The stall looks great. Went to a local fair on Saturday and saw pretty much the same thing... low footfall and very little buying. I think that the weather was against it along with the economic climate. I made a decision last year not to do Summer events and focus on a Christmas trade when people need to buy and have found that more successful :)

  3. Your stall looks really enticing with all those lovely colours. I think people are making far less impulse and luxury buys these days, and I think most people perceive hand-made to fall within those categories.

  4. It was lovely to see your pics of the event, but sad that footfall ind interest in buying were both low. There is a general downturn, but some events can be good ones. It's just so hard to work out which ones! Ros is right in that pre-Christmas events do tend to be much better, as people are looking for presents. Good luck for your next fair x

  5. Your stall looks so colourful. I would be scared of smashing the lot if it were me! I can't see why you aren't being more successful but I admire your resiliance. I hope number 4 makes it more worthwhile!

  7. Your stall looks lovely, very bright and colourful. I think it's just a thing at the moment that people seem to undervalue handmade things for some reason. Such a shame.

  8. Your stall looks fantastic, so colourful. I think it is the economic climate that's making it so hard to sell at the moment. People perceive that they have less money to spend on luxuries so won't spend on "nice" things that they don't need. Fingers crossed for number 4. xx

  10. Your stall looks wonderful! so warm and inviting :)

i don't have too much experience with craft fairs but i'm sure that the current economic climate is affecting sales at these type of events as much as it is everywhere else. I think that even if people are interested in handmade they are more likely to admire than buy at the moment, i know i am!

Good luck with your next event, i hope there is a better customer turn out :) x

  13. Your stall looks great, sorry for the lack of interest and sales. I have not done any fairs at all this year but echo the others in the fact that i always found summer fairs disillusional and prefered to book only from October onwards. Good luck with number 4!
